Ice cream served up at Beverly’s Café thanks to REV
August 19, 2019
If you want a piece of Americana for dinner, head to Beverly’s Café.
The Crosby diner at 12 S.E. Fifth St. offers up a menu full of home-cooked classics like roast beef, hot beef, haystacks, burgers, wraps, soups, breakfast and more. Oh and co-owner Joe DegeJardine serves up his famous smoked brisket, prime rib, chicken and steaks.
“We have a little bit of everything,” said Jean DegeJardine, who owns the restaurant with her husband.
That now includes ice cream, thanks to the business’ performance last year in The Bank of Tioga REV business pitch competition. Beverly’s Café took home second place to earn $3,400, which the DegeJardines used to purchase a soft-serve ice cream machine.
“We got the ice cream machine, that was the biggest thing,” Jean DegeJardine said. “REV helped us purchase a machine that was out of our reach before that. I hope all the other businesses keep applying, because it was so helpful.”
The bank is again partnering with the Tioga Area Economic Development Corporation to help provide an opportunity for business growth through the REV program, where entrepreneurs and business owners have the chance to win up to $10,000.
This year’s event will be held at 1 p.m. on Nov. 7 at the Bank of Tioga Crosby location, 11 Central Avenue E. Applications are due by Oct. 20 and the competition is open to businesses in the Crosby and Tioga areas.
Beverly’s Café opened in October of 2017. When Jean DegeJardine heard about the chance to improve through REV, she worked to get over her nerves and make her pitch.
“Nerve-racking,” she said of the competition. “I’m not real good with doing that type of stuff. But it was a great experience.”
Her advice to this year’s potential REV competitors?
“Don’t be nervous. It’s really not that scary,” she said. “I encourage all small businesses and business owners in general to apply. These programs help. It’s beneficial to everybody. And very much appreciated.
